Dragonfruit

Dragonfruit
In this project, I was tasked with creating a design of any kind as long as it parodied or represented something I found pretentious. I chose to tackle both conceptual art and modern poetry books. I accomplished this by parodying Yoko Ono's book titled "Grapefruit," which was filled with instructions on how to make conceptual art in everyday life.
I chose to research Ono’s life and see the events that led her to become the woman she is today. I portrayed these events in the form of short, vague poems. I wanted to include minimalistic illustrations that were amateur-looking, as that was the style of poetry I was imitating. The front cover of the original book I was imitating also suffered from some design mistakes that I wanted to replicate.
I enjoyed putting myself in Yoko Ono's shoes and thinking through her perspective, as I found myself empathizing with her a lot more than I thought I would.
